The Skimmtelligent Mini complements FRIESS’s proven range of oil separators. Many machine tools use oil-in-water emulsions as coolants and lubricants.
During machine operation, bedway oil, hydraulic oil and corrosion-protection oil can enter the coolant emulsion.
When the fluid is at rest, much of this tramp oil rises to the surface as a dark brown or black layer that can be removed with an oil skimmer.
However, many plants operate around the clock. Continuous agitation keeps the tramp oil finely dispersed in the emulsion, preventing it from floating to the surface where a conventional skimmer can collect it.
The contamination also promotes bacterial and fungal growth in the system.
The emulsion and dispersed tramp oil are pumped into the separator. In a separation chamber fitted with a coalescer, the finely distributed oil droplets combine, separate from the emulsion and rise to the surface.
The cleaned emulsion returns to the machine tank. The floating oil phase enters a separator tank through an adjustable overflow. Any carried-over emulsion flows back into the circuit, while the separated tramp oil drains into a storage tank.
The only moving component is the feed pump, so the separator itself is wear-free. For rapid and efficient removal of ferrous particles, the system can also be equipped with a FRIESS magnetic filter.
Continuous cleaning and care can multiply coolant service life, reduce bacterial and fungal growth, and lower both concentrate-purchase and disposal costs.
