The FRIESS Skimmtelligent Mini is a compact oil-water separator for small tanks and decentralized workstations. It removes tramp oil from cutting fluids, washing liquids, degreasing baths and emulsions. Fine oil droplets are separated by inclined coalescing plates, and the cleaned process liquid returns to the original tank. This extends fluid service life while reducing disposal and make-up fluid costs.
The FRIESS Skimmtelligent Mini is designed for applications in which tramp oil does not simply float on the surface but remains mixed with the process liquid. A positive-displacement pump transfers the contaminated liquid from the tank into the unit.
Inside the separation tank, the liquid flows through inclined coalescing plates. Even very small oil droplets rise slightly and collect on the underside of the plate above. There, many fine droplets combine into larger droplets. Their increased buoyancy allows them to rise quickly to the surface, where the resulting oil layer passes over an adjustable weir into the oil-collection chamber.
The separated oil remains in the collection chamber while the cleaned liquid flows back to the original tank.
An integrated FRIESS magnetic filter is available as an option. It additionally removes ferromagnetic particles from the liquid down to approximately 1 µm.
The Skimmtelligent Mini is suitable for individual machine-tool coolant tanks, small washing tanks, degreasing baths, emulsion circuits and decentralized workstations with a relatively low but continuous tramp-oil load. When the oil is dispersed as fine droplets instead of forming a stable surface layer, a coalescing separator is generally more effective than a conventional skimmer.
An oil skimmer primarily removes oil floating on the liquid surface. The Skimmtelligent Mini treats process liquids in which the oil is mixed into the fluid, the droplets are small and no clear surface layer forms. Its inclined coalescing plates combine fine droplets into larger ones so that they rise and separate reliably.
Choose the Skimmtelligent Mini for smaller flow rates, decentralized tanks and flexible installation. For higher flow rates or central coolant systems, the SKT or SMT range may be more suitable. FRIESS engineers can recommend a model based on tank volume, liquid type, contamination source and available installation space.
An optional FRIESS magnetic filter simultaneously removes ferromagnetic particles. In cutting-fluid systems containing metal fines, grinding particles or small iron chips, magnetic filtration further improves fluid cleanliness and reduces maintenance requirements.
Which liquids can the Skimmtelligent Mini treat?
It is suitable for cutting fluids, washing liquids, degreasing baths, emulsions and similar industrial process fluids, especially when tramp oil is dispersed as fine droplets and cannot be removed effectively by surface skimming alone.
What is the flow rate of the Skimmtelligent Mini?
The unit treats 4 L/min and is intended for smaller tanks, individual machines and decentralized workstations.
How does it differ from a conventional oil skimmer?
A skimmer removes oil floating on the surface. The Skimmtelligent Mini uses coalescing separation to remove fine oil droplets mixed into the liquid, making it suitable where the droplets do not readily rise on their own.
Can it also remove metal particles?
Yes. An optional FRIESS magnetic filter removes ferromagnetic particles down to approximately 1 µm.
Is this model suitable for large central systems?
The Skimmtelligent Mini is best suited to small or decentralized systems. For larger central installations, evaluate the SKT, SMT500 or SMT-FB series.
