Fully automatic self-cleaning magnetic filtration. Start the cleaning cycle at the push of a button.
A fully automatic magnetic filtration solution for continuously operating production lines, with process flow rates up to 500 L/min.
The FRIESS ASMF fully automatic self-cleaning magnetic filter reliably removes iron, steel and stainless-steel particles from a wide range of process fluids and automatically discharges the collected sludge. Three or five concentrically arranged magnetic rods contain powerful neodymium magnets that consistently capture ultrafine ferromagnetic particles smaller than 1 µm. The PLC-controlled cleaning cycle automatically closes the inlet and outlet valves, withdraws the magnets and opens the sludge-discharge valve without operator intervention. Because no filter paper or cartridges are required, operating costs remain exceptionally low. The ASMF is especially suitable for continuously operating production lines with limited staffing.
The FRIESS ASMF magnetic filter not only removes iron, steel and stainless-steel particles from all types of process fluids; it also cleans itself automatically. As a fully automated system, it is particularly useful wherever staffing is limited or continuous operation is required.
The ASMF magnetic filter is designed to remove ferromagnetic metal particles from process liquids. Even particles smaller than 1 µm are reliably attracted by the powerful neodymium magnets inside three or five concentrically arranged magnetic rods. The process requires no filter consumables and virtually no additional energy, keeping operating costs exceptionally low.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is the difference between the ASMF and SMF magnetic filters?
A: The ASMF uses PLC-controlled fully automatic cleaning and requires no operator intervention, making it ideal for continuously operating or lightly staffed production lines. The SMF is cleaned semi-automatically using a few external levers. Neither system requires filter consumables.
Q2: How does the ASMF automatic cleaning cycle work?
A: The system closes the inlet and outlet valves, withdraws the magnets from their sleeves and opens the sludge-discharge valve. The collected particles are discharged automatically with a small volume of fluid. The PLC controls the number and duration of flushing pulses and returns the filter to operation when cleaning is complete.
Q3: Which processes and industries are suitable for the ASMF?
A: Grinding, honing, EDM, industrial washing, surface pretreatment, quenching and hardening, test benches and other metalworking processes that generate ferromagnetic particles. The ASMF is especially suitable for highly automated lines with limited staffing and can be integrated with factory control systems for remote monitoring.
Q4: Which ASMF sizes are available?
A: The ASMF 3 has three magnetic filter rods and handles up to 150 L/min of water-based fluid. The ASMF 5 has five rods and handles up to 300 L/min. Select the appropriate size according to process flow and contamination load.
Q5: Does the ASMF require consumables?
A: No. The ASMF uses neodymium magnetism and requires neither filter paper nor cartridges. Filtration consumes virtually no additional energy, while automatic cleaning eliminates routine operator intervention and keeps operating costs low.
In addition to reducing operating costs, FRIESS oil skimmers, electrostatic oil cleaners, magnetic filters, coolant purification systems, oil-water separators and vacuum oil purifiers provide many further benefits.
